The Lake Breeze Tavern was located in Haines Park on Rogers Lake and subsequently burned to the ground. Apparently, a lot of effort went into planning for the meeting, as a Constitution was presented and approved on that date. Officers and Trustees were elected in accordance with the provisions […]

It may surprise you to learn that the first “River View Yacht Club” home was the old Sacramento River Steamer the “Cherokee.” The old paddle wheel was built and launched in August 9, 1912 out of the west Oakland shipyard. She was used to carry freight from San Francisco to Sacramento. As more modern ships were developed, the “Cherokee” was given to the City of Sacramento then some time later sold to the Sacramento Yacht Club and again sold to […]
In January 1913, a handful of sailors met at Peterson’s Boat House at the foot of 12th Street in Oakland. They formed Oakland Yacht Club which was incorporated in December of that year. Early history of Bay Area yacht clubs suggests that there were two yacht clubs named “Oakland.” It is thought that our Club has its roots in several former clubs including The Panama YC. Judge H.W. Pulcifer was elected the first Commodore, and the first meetings of the […]
Mission Bay Yacht Club has a rich history — the early sailboats had to be flat bottomed to maneuver in the shallow water of the Bay. The Flapper, a 12 foot catboat, was the first class to race. A variety of boats, including some from San Diego Yacht Club, formed a handicap fleet and raced when the tide permitted. By 1931 the Skimmer was the hot boat in this area. Each Opening Day we relive some of our early history […]

EYC has rounded out 2015 atop the waves! I feel I have nearly seen it all these past four years as a flag officer, but as of now I see a shipshape S.S. EYC in bristol fashion, with a bountiful track line left behind and an even richer course ahead; the compass pointing toward our founders vision of the “north star of the bay”. On the horizon I see an eager rising sun on the misty cloud lit sky and […]
