Milford Yacht Club maintains the charm of an old fashioned boating club while providing modern amenities such as a full service restaurant, swimming pool and marina. Members and their guests enjoy coming in from a day of yachting, then cooling off in the pool before relaxing on the deck with drinks before dinner. Often the clubhouse is jumping with the excitement of a weekend regatta or grooving to the live music on a Sunday afternoon.
The Mattabesett Canoe Club was organized January 7, 1896 by a group of canoe enthusiasts and what became of that is now The Middlesex Yacht Club. The first location was on land owned by the Davis family at the foot of College Street on the Connecticut River in Middletown. A clubhouse was built there at a cost of $400 and rented on a three-year lease of $80 per year. The initiation fee was $5, active dies $8 and associate dues […]

South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club has gone through many changes from its earlier foundations, retaining the spirit of yachting and having a good time. Today, we are a cross-section of the yachting community, incorporating a variety of craft from single man rowing shells and sabots to ocean racers competing […]
How did we get where we are today? Back in the late thirties, Dr. Jack E. Taylor and Dr. Glenn E. Thorpe, sailing friends, met on a regular basis for lunch at a restaurant overlooking Santa Monica Bay. As with all yachting types, the conversations during these lunches invariably turned to the subject of boats and boating. Before long, these men who jokingly called themselves the “End of the World Yacht Club”, were joined by Boyd “Bud” Verplank and Stratford […]

Marin Yacht Club started as a Yachting annex of the Marin Golf and Country Club on 29th of September 1929. F. Somers Peterson and his wife Helen, founders of the Country Club, with its 9 hole Golf Course, had in reality, little interest in playing golf. They both were fascinated by the water and nurtured a great love for sailing. Living in a house situated on the heights above the entrance of San Rafael creek and canal into the San […]

In the true sense of Corinthian Sailing, our goal at LMVYC is to promote sailing, to encourage good fellowship among yachtsmen afloat and ashore, and to introduce non-boat-owning amateur sailors young and old to the sport of sailing. The Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club derives its origin from the Saint John Yacht Club which was founded during two meetings of yachting enthusiasts in May of 1894. Frank Whelpley, Albert McArthur, Howard Holder and Fred Heans believed that the sport of sailing could be better encouraged in Saint John through the organized structure of a formally established Club. The Squadron of the new Club consisted of only six yachts. Initial dues were one dollar per year and one dollar for […]
A number of us had our boats tied up at the Govt. dock; a couple at McGee’s floats and one tied up at Schneider’s float beside his tugboat (now Blue Heron Marina). McGee’s is now the Golden Eagle Marina. I think this must have been 1972. A meeting was held in the High School to organize ourselves and get this yacht club underway. Vern Walker was appointed as Commodore, I think he worked on the Woodfibre ferry as skipper then. […]

During the height of the Second World War the club remained inactive, reconvening in 1946. Eventually the clubhouse was sold and rented back to RCYC in […]

The Reservoir at Bartley Green, Birmingham was built around 1900. The water in Bartley runs entirely by gravity from the Elan Valley in Wales. The club was founded when a few hardy souls from existing local sailing clubs began sailing on Bartley Reservoir in the late 1970s. Our […]
It was in late 1986 that the newly elected Commodore, Michael Larkam asked me to write a history of the Club. Now, at the end of Philip Everard’s term of office as Commodore it is finished. How it will be published or in what form it will be available for present and future members to read, I leave to the Committee. It has approximately 60,000 words and mathematically that works out at an average of 33 per day! Nothing […]
